After a gap of several months, it must be time for a book give-away.
‘Oxford College Gardens’ by Tim Richardson, is published today by Frances Lincoln and retails at £40. Here’s what they have to say about it:
“The gardens of Oxford’s colleges are surprisingly varied in style, age and size, ranging from the 16th-century Mount in the middle of New College to the impressive modernist design which is St Catherine’s. Regency gardening is represented by the magnificent acreage of Worcester, while the twentieth-century vogue for rock gardening is reflected at St John’s. Founded in 1621, the Oxford University Botanic Garden is the oldest in Britain, and holds one of the most diverse plant collections in the world. From the bijou corners of Corpus Christi to the wide open lawns of Trinity, Oxford’s gardens are full of surprises and hidden corners – not least the fellows’ and masters’ gardens, which are sometimes kept resolutely private but can be enjoyed here.
In this book Tim Richardson’s elegant, authoritative analysis combines with Andrew Lawson’s glorious photographs to reveal the diversity and discreet charm of Oxford’s college gardens.”

Have just hopped here via The Patient Gardener’s fernophile post. A lot of us would love to win this gorgeous book. It is right and proper that callow youth does not appreciate gardening, there has to be some advantage to getting old. And you garden in Sussex? I just need to post this and I will find the follow button. Oh my I keep discovering new and wonderful blogs!

I know. Youth is wasted on the callow, isn’t it? I’ve started a list on the advantages of getting older. It’s still quite short but, hopefully, I’ve plenty of time to work on it. Good luck in the draw and thanks very much for the follow. Dave

Hello! Sure, enter me! But I am in the U.S., so I’ll pay shipping if I win!! Really nice blog you have here! I’ve enjoyed your photos as well as your writing. We live on an island off the coast of Maine which looks similar to the Farne islands, so it was fun to see how connected we are all around the Atlantic. Nice to peek over your shoulder into your happy life.

I imagine the coast of Maine is a good deal colder than Northumberland though otherwise very similar? And I’m so glad you like my blog but please see below about entering the draw. Apologies again. Dave.
