Is it time for a book giveaway? I think so.
‘American Gardens’ by Monty Don and Derry Moore is published today, with an RRP of £35.00. Here’s your chance to win a copy courtesy of your quite friendly, neighbourhood Anxious Gardener.

If you didn’t watch the TV series, the press release explains all you need to know about this beautiful book:
For years, Britain’s much-loved gardener Monty Don has been leading us down all kinds of garden paths to show us why green spaces are vital to our wellbeing and culture. Now, he travels across America with celebrated photographer Derry Moore to trace the fascinating histories of outdoor spaces which epitomize or redefine the American garden. In the book, which complements the BBC television series, they look at a variety of gardens and outdoor spaces at the centre of American history including the slave garden at Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello estate, Longwood Gardens in Delaware, and Middleton Place in South Carolina.

Together Monty & Derry visit verdant oases designed by modernist architects such as Richard Neutra. They delve into urban outdoor spaces, looking at New York City’s Central Park, Lurie Garden at the southern end of Millennium Park in Chicago, and the Seattle Spheres.

Derry Moore gives his unique perspective on gardens across the United States, including several not featured in the TV series. These include unpublished photographs of Bob Hope’s Palm Springs home and garden of renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Featuring luscious photography and Don’s engaging commentary, this book will leave you with a richer understanding of how America’s most important gardens came to be designed.

Interested? Well, if so enter the prize draw by simply:
saying that you want to enter in the “Any Thoughts” box below
and
er, that’s it.
Please note that the prize can only be posted to a UK postal address.
The competition will close at midnight on Sunday 4th October 2020.

I’ll draw a name from this very hat, contact the winner and add the result to the bottom of this post.
Good Luck!
oooOOOooo
Thanks for the update David!

Yes, you may Carmel. Tbh, I’ve just begun a course and I have so much reading to get through, I’m afraid I haven’t the time for Monty as well. Good luck. D

Yes please, I would love to enter! I am Australian, and some of this would be directly relevant for my evolving sun-soaked garden, but never fear about addresses as my folks are in the UK. The bonus is that they would get to enjoy it until Covid numbers have gone further down, and travel $$ have gone up.
Also, thank you for sharing your blog with us all, it has without fail been a delightful, relaxing read, with plenty of beauty to soothe the busy soul 🙂

Thanks very much, Catherine. Your comment about my blog means a lot to me and I’m only sorry it’s grown rather dusty for the past couple of years. And two winners for the price of one, eh? Canny thinking. Good luck. D

I do like a garden with fedora shrubs and trilby bushes, nothing fancy, just a place to hang your hat.
This isn’t an entry – – I’m in the U.S., but good luck to all, glad to know about this series.

A gook giveaway? Excellent. Please stick the name Esmerelda Von Schnitzel de Fromage in your snappy hat.

I knew a one-legged Von Schnitzel de Fromage in old Shanghai before the last war. Curious chap – would sing a Marlene Dietrich song whilst churning out a completely different melody on his barrel organ. Had a cute monkey, I remember, if no snappy hat on his blonde wig. Might he have been a relative?

Monty Don knows his stuff, plus he’s a total dreamboat—am I allowed to say that? Just kidding…I’m apparently not eligible as my address is in the U.S. which is strange because the book is about American Gardens. Oh, well. 🙂

You’re allowed to say that, Rick. Sorry about the UK postage only rule. It is about American gardens but from an English publisher. If you have an English friend or relative who would be happy to forward to you should you win, please do enter. Best, D
